About.

Music has been a constant throughout my life. I was born in Australia and for the last 21 years Canada has been my home. For decades I have played bass and sung backing vocals in original bands that worked hard to get discovered, and to a certain degree, we were.

I've been fortunate to play some great gigs and share the stage with some remarkable musicians. I've also been part of church bands and recording sessions, all while pursuing a career, raising a family, and running a business.

While I still enjoy playing bass, my focus today is on writing and performing my own songs. My goal is simply to write better songs, become a better performer, and connect with listeners who find meaning in the stories I have to share.

DEAN WORKMAN – PRESS KIT

Tagline: Songs for open hearts, curious minds, and souls searching for the light.

Short Bio (50 Words)

Australian-born Canadian songwriter Dean Workman delivers rhythm-driven acoustic songs shaped by decades as a professional bassist. His writing is driven by whatever emotional knot needs untangling, holding even the heaviest subjects with care. His performances reward listening audiences with movement, connection, and quiet resolution.

Medium Bio (100 Words)

Australian-born Canadian songwriter Dean Workman writes songs that invite people to listen. Decades of working as a professional bassist have shaped a strong rhythmic foundation, giving his acoustic performances movement and lift, opening hearts for the words to land. His songs deliver honest, raw emotion, holding even the heaviest subjects with care, and often shift naturally from reflection to release.

Based in the Elora and Fergus area of Ontario for over twenty years, Dean’s writing is driven by whatever emotional knot needs untangling. His songs reward listeners who lean in and leave feeling a little steadier than when they arrived.

Full Bio (250 Words)

Dean Workman is an Australian–born Canadian folk singer-songwriter whose music blends warm acoustic storytelling with themes of longing, healing, awakening, and the human condition. Now based on a small farm in rural Ontario, Dean writes songs rooted in real-life experience, the fragility of memory, the aching beauty of family ties, and the quiet courage needed to navigate loss and change. His lyrics carry emotional weight while his performances maintain a disarming honesty that draws listeners in. Influenced by voices such as Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young, Rodriguez, and Sting, Dean’s writing sits comfortably in the space where reflective songwriting, spiritual searching, and lived experience meet. His performances create intimate, resonant moments shaped by the people and stories that shaped his own life, including heartfelt tributes to family members facing dementia, and raw explorations of personal resilience. Dean has been performing in  Ontario, including notable collaborations such as playing bass for world renowned Celtic guitarist Tony McManus at a major regional festival. In 2026, he will release a series of new singles and live recordings while expanding his presence in the Canadian folk community. Dean has been booked for a Mariposa Folk Festival 2026 in Oralia Ontario. Additional performances currently in development. With a growing catalog and a deeply human voice, Dean continues to carve out a space in the acoustic folk landscape. Honest, vulnerable, and unmistakably real.
