Somehow, Dean Workman notices moments many people miss. He remembers them. They turn up later in songs about people, relationships and the strange little details that make an ordinary life anything but ordinary.
Who begins a solo singer-songwriter career in his sixties? Dean, apparently. After more than forty years playing bass, singing backing vocals and supporting other artists, he stepped towards the centre of the stage carrying a lifetime of love, heartbreak, laughter, mistakes, passion and experience with him. It is a seriously deep well to draw from, and his songs refuse to stay politely inside one musical box.
Dean is drawn to imperfections. They are often where the connection to a song begins. His songs usually begin with something personal: an observation, a memory, a conversation or a moment that stayed with him.
Born in Australia and based in Canada for twenty-one years, Dean released his first solo album, Don’t Overthink It, in 2025. In 2026, he performed two solo sets and took part in two workshops at the Mariposa Folk Festival. His second solo album is scheduled for release in October 2026.
